Ok. It is January 2025 right now. I suppose it is a good moment to tell you something about my activities, which took place in 2024. I’ll try to get back with my memories and summarize what went well and what went hmm... not quite well in the past year. I’ll focus on the professional side of my life, so in case you’re looking for information like how many books I’ve read or how many video games I’ve completed (I can only tell you that not as much as I would like to)… I suppose this is not the right place. Let's get started!
I started 2024 by changing my job. The decision was made because I was tired of acting in the team leader role I was working in at the time and wanted to return to working on larger international projects.
After three months in the new company, I decided to return to the previous one. What was behind this decision? First of all, the complete lack of remote work culture in the new organization. If you don't know, I'm a huge fan of remote work. I can come to the office if there's a real need, but doing it just to work the whole day with a team located in another country doesn't make any sense in my opinion. If you're also going to play a key role as an architect in a project where the client explicitly states that the only acceptable meetings are in their office, you have 2 options in this case - join them or leave the project. Since I didn't want to move to Copenhagen for an indefinite period of time, I chose the second option. The technology stack, which (let's be honest) wasn't one of my favorites, also had a little impact on my decision, but it was rather secondary when making it.
After having small vacation I was engaged to the big analysis project of migrating old CRM solution into Dynamics 365 application in the Polish unit of one of the (I assume) biggest European media company. I was interesting because I was never working in this kind of business before. Plus in the meantime I was working on some smaller project using different technologies from the Microsoft stack (Power Platform, Azure, .NET and Blazor, Azure DevOps and others).
Right now I’ve gotten back to the technical expert role and feel good about it. The nearest plans for the coming months will consist in deepening knowledge about the possibilities of Power Platform and GitHub platforms integration, regarding new out-of-the-box customization extractions possibilities and using GitHub Actions for build, quality checking and release management in the complicated, code-based Dynamics 365/Power Platform solutions implementations. I will also work on a structured development plan for people who would like to eventually work as solution architects in my current organization. Plus, continue development of some of my pet projects (including my personal home site, which is a little rusty and requires some refreshing right now) with Microsoft .NET, Power Platform, and other technologies. The future looks very promising at this moment. Cannot wait :).
